Medicinal cup

Onurcan Akcan, a resident of the capital, appeared at the Lefkoşa District Court on Tuesday.

Police officer Hüseyin Ergüleç testified that Mr Akcan had confessed to providing “cupping therapy – adding that they had found 200 cups and 40 cupping pumps at his residency. 

Cupping therapy is a form of alternative medicine in which a local suction is created on the skin with the application of heated cups. 

Mr Ergüleç said that they had determined that patients had visted Akcan’s apartment and paid him for his services. He also said they had found what they believed to be other medical equipment as well as “many numbers of leeches” at the apartment, which they were passing to the Veterinary department for examination.
