TREE pruning has begun on the Girne–Lefkoşa main road amid complaints from road users that overgrown trees were obstructing visibility and creating a traffic hazard.

The Highways Department, which operates under the Public Works and Transport Ministry, said the work forms part of efforts to improve road safety.

Crews have started near the Ağırdağ junction on the Lefkoşa-bound carriageway, where trees along the roadside and central reservation are being heavily pruned to address safety risks.

Citizens have complained that branches were blocking drivers’ views, making sections of the busy route more dangerous.

The department said similar work would be carried out on other main roads under its responsibility. Road cleaning and routine replacement of safety barriers will also continue.
