‘Our fight for justice is not over,’ says Karakaya
Karakaya, whose daughter Selin died when the hotel in Adıyaman collapsed during the February 6, 2023 earthquakes, said families were awaiting a ruling from Türkiye’s Supreme Court of Appeals.
“We will continue our struggle to ensure those responsible for our children’s deaths receive the punishment they deserve,” she said in a social media post.
The hotel collapse claimed 72 lives, including members of the Turkish Cypriot school volleyball group known as the Champion Angels.
Karakaya said the association had supported 315 secondary school pupils and pledged to help more than 20 young people throughout their university studies. Work on its education campus project was also nearing completion, with preparations under way to present it to the public.
Thanking families, friends and supporters around the world, she said the association’s work kept the children’s names and dreams alive while offering hope to others.
“Just because life goes on does not mean nothing happened. Just because time passes does not mean the pain is forgotten,” she said.
“Our search for justice and our struggle for our children are not over.”
