Erdoğan renews recognition call for TRNC at UN
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has used the United Nations General Assembly for the fourth consecutive year to call on the international community to recognise the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
Addressing world leaders in New York, Erdoğan reiterated that a federal settlement in Cyprus was no longer realistic and said any future agreement must be based on the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people.
He urged countries to establish diplomatic, political and economic relations with the TRNC and called for an end to what he described as the unjust isolation imposed on Turkish Cypriots.
Erdoğan’s latest appeal demonstrated Ankara’s continued commitment to placing international recognition of the TRNC firmly on the global diplomatic agenda, due to the lack of progress in reunification talks
