Ferry disaster death toll rises to 20; eight still missing
The Prime Minister’s Office announced the discovery on October 3, saying DNA testing had begun to establish the deceased’s identity.
The Filo Jet passenger ferry sank on August 30 while travelling from Girne to Taşucu in Türkiye, prompting a major search and rescue operation involving teams from North Cyprus and Türkiye.
Before the latest discovery, 18 deaths had been recorded and 10 people remained unaccounted for.
Authorities said searches had continued without interruption since the disaster, with all available state resources deployed to locate those missing.
The Prime Minister’s Office pledged to continue the operation until everyone had been found and expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died.
