PRESIDENT Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides have agreed to meet again next week following talks on Tuesday held in what the United Nations described as a “positive atmosphere”.

The meeting took place at the offices of the UN Good Offices Mission in the UN Protected Area in Nicosia, beginning at 3.50pm and concluding at 5.10pm.

In a statement issued afterwards, the UN said both leaders looked forward to the forthcoming visit of María Ángela Holguín, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus.

They also agreed to attend a festival in the mixed village of Pyla/Pile on Saturday, October 17.

Further joint engagements will include upcoming meetings of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, the Technical Committee on Youth and the Steering Committee of the Civil Society Consultative Body.

The UN statement did not announce any agreement on specific confidence-building measures, but confirmed that the leaders would continue their discussions next week.
